Black Christmas movie review

Art and Entertainment - This festive fright-fest was a pleasant surprise from what I‘d been originally expecting. This is another horror remake (from the folks behind ‘Final Destination’ – great film ), but unlike numerous others; it did manage to show up trumps; for example ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This can be a remake of Bob Clarke’s 1974 classic slasher movie, ‘Black Christmas'; which came four years before John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween.' Some fans lay claim that it was eventually the initial slasher flick.

Black Christmas movie review

From the surface, this looks like just another of your respective basic ‘there’s a psycho hacking up a bunch of pretty girls, that are running in the stairs rather than from the door, ’ and also to a particular extent that’s correct, it’s the way in which this really is conveyed, and that is intriguing enticing to watch.

The storyline: crazed killer, Billy Lenz, escapes his psychiatric ward and it is determined to make it to his childhood home, where he was abused, by Christmas. The problem is, it’s years later and also the house is now a Sorority house. It’s Christmas Eve, and also a who’s who of teen/horror girl stars exist to welcome him, including Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg, ‘Buffy the vampire slayer’ fame ), Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, ‘Final Destination 3’ ), Dana (Lacey Chabert, ‘Mean Girls’ ) and Kelli (Katie Cassidy, ‘When a stranger calls’ remake. )

This movie is pretty good, it features a constant feeling of being watched that runs right through it and adds a sparkle towards the scares, and also the tension is kept high. The actresses, although spouting some awful lines sometimes, also say some good ones. The acting is good, and since a lot of the leading ladies are stars, and the majority of them horror stars, the group doesn’t guess which will certainly cause it to be towards the rolling credits. The storyline builds well, and there‘s a mounting tension, like the killer first phones the girls, after which starts to carry out away with these.

An identical storyline to the initial ‘Halloween,' having a killer coming home to the holidays, There‘s also many similar P. O. V shots from the killer, watching the girls through the entire house. The Christmas theme bleeds in nicely using the plot, and it also comes across in places (especially, the flash-backs to Billy Lenz’s childhood ) like something, director, Tim Burton, would dream up. The film gets darker and darker once we move through it, with some very violent scenes, and also the music by Shirley Walker is great; capturing horror and Christmas all in one twisted melody. Also, the usage of red and green lighting throughout (owed to Christmas ) is extremely cool and creates an excellent atmosphere.

Because of it being set inside a Sorority house, which Not being 1974, many of the dialogue just doesn’t cut it. I can’t imagine many of those girls’ staying inside the house having a crazed serial killer, just simply since they can’t find their ‘sorority sister, ’ believable in 2007 – sad, but true. There‘s, unfortunately, the obligatory shower scene, but it’s employed for scares, not thrills, and thus works.

Immediately you can tell, this isn’t your usual run from the mill slasher, it actually includes a back story, so we do find ourselves caring for many of the characters, for instance, Kelli, played by Katie Cassidy is great ; plus in case you hated ‘Dawn’ in ‘Buffy the vampire slayer’ – you‘re gonna adore this movie.

I think it's enough all about Black Christmas movie review. Thanks so much :)
